About BRIDGE

BRIDGE—Diaspora Bridging Research, Innovation, Development and Global Engagement—is an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education designed to ensure that Nigerian academic and medical institutions benefit from global expertise, funding opportunities, industry partnerships and knowledge transfer.

The Initiative

A National Mandate

In line with the Ministry's NESRI six-point agenda and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to providing quality education for all, the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, has been developing a platform to strengthen diaspora engagement across Nigeria's education, research and medical institutions.

Structured Pathways

BRIDGE is designed to create structured pathways through which Nigerian scholars and professionals in the diaspora can engage meaningfully with institutions at home. The programme seeks to address critical gaps in teaching, medical service delivery, research capacity, teaching methodologies, innovation and industry relevance.

Championed From the Top

As a returnee who was once eager to contribute to the transformation of our great nation, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, recognised the need to simplify the process through which Nigerians in the diaspora can give back and contribute to national development. In his current role as Minister of Education, he has championed BRIDGE as a practical and sustainable platform for achieving this objective.

A Major Shift

BRIDGE represents a major shift in how Nigeria engages its diaspora professionals across academia, medicine, the arts, industry and other critical sectors. This engagement is essential to unlocking Nigeria's vast human capital, strengthening institutions and driving transformative change across society.

Rollout Under Way

As part of the rollout of the BRIDGE Programme, we are demonstrating the platform's capabilities today at the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas event in Lagos. Next week, we will engage Vice-Chancellors, Rectors and Provosts of tertiary institutions to support the onboarding of their institutions and facilitate meaningful connections with the global Nigerian diaspora community.

Confident in the Impact

We are immensely proud of this initiative and confident in the positive impact it will have on education, research, healthcare, innovation and national development.

Together, we are bridging the gap and building a brighter future for Nigeria.
